The name Lonavala came from the Prakrit words Lonavla, Len meaning the place to rest and Avali meaning series. Lonavala in time changed to Lonavala and Lonavala. The present Lonavala and Khandala though discovered by Sir. Elphinstone, the governor of Bombay presidency, once belonged to the Yadava dynasty. Lonavala along with Khandala is fondly called the twin hill stations located in Pune district, Maharashtra.
